Tummy Time

Ezra is still a really good baby and he goes to work with me two or three days a week. Most of the time, he does great, but he's been pretty fussy the last couple of days. We're not sure what the problem is - teeth, the cold he and Eli had, or maybe he's just getting spoiled rotten! He continues to grow and do new things all the time. He likes rolling onto his tummy, but most of the time we end up having to roll him back over onto his back. He's started grabbing everything in reach (like hair, earrings, and glasses). He also had his first helpings of cereal this week. Oh, the sweet potatoes are next!

Gasoline in His Genes

I think it is pretty well known that Eli loves anything with wheels and an engine. I think there is a gasoline gene and it runs strong in the Wyatt family.

This is the body shop that Chris' grandfather established in 1965. Chris' dad and uncles all worked there.

This is the '67 Cougar Chris and his dad rescued from the junk heap and rebuilt when Chris was in high school.

This is Eli "fixin' " the wheels of his wagon. We don't think he's ever seen anyone under a car working before so my only explanation is genetics.

Reza!

So we should have named Ezra "Reza." That's what Eli calls him and he says it so much, with such gusto, that Chris and I say it half the time too. Poor Ezra, he may have trouble learning his name, but he's much loved anyway. Eli is absolutely enamoured with him now that Ezra can "play" with him. Eli purposefully puts his head and hair within the baby's grasp and tries his best to include Ezra in his games.

I'll update you on Ezra new stats this afternoon after his check-up.
UPDATE: the word is Ezra is a very healthy baby, busting the doctor's growth charts at 27.75" long and 15lbs 12oz. He also surpassed Eli's stats at this age by a little bit.

Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'
It took Eli forever to learn to roll in both directions, but Ezra just keeps on rolling until something large gets in his way.

The orange seat and its wheel of wonder are so exciting, Ezra grabs for the wheel while I'm still trying to get the tray fastened.

Baby, you can drive my car!
Ezra and his mechanic (this whole thing was Eli's idea by the way)Whew! I'm so tired!
There's always time for some Eli-time too.

Happy 4th Month (and Independence Day)!

Ezra celebrated his 4 month birthday yesterday and we'll see how much he's grown when he goes for his check-up next week, but I can tell you that it is a lot!
We had a fairly quiet 4th today, but we did enjoy an outing to Radford's celebration. Eli pretty much thought the lawnmower wagon was the best thing since sliced bread.

Week of Fun (part 2)

We took our stay-cation on the road to Grandma and Grandpa's house the past couple of days to have some new outdoor adventures.

First, there was kayaking! Eli had an absolute blast boating, wading, and crawdad catching (no crawdads were harmed or even actually caught, mind you) in the icy waters of Little River. I had a fair amount of nostalgia because I waded these particular waters myself many times as a child.
Ezra passed on the water adventures in favor of some giggle time with Grandma.
Next, while Chris was enjoying a solitary paddle down the New, Eli and I went on a hike above the grandparents' house. Big rocks, wet weather springs, soft moss, and fresh-smelling ferns are just as much fun as they used to be when I was little. Eli had a good time and walked up and down the mountain like a trooper though he was a bit disgruntled by all the sticks laying in the way and held my hand for fear of rolling down the hill.
This burl is bigger than my head - whatever a burl is....
An evening picnic on Granddaddy's Mountain (no, not Grandfather Mtn, but my Granddaddy's down at the farm) was lovely for us adults, Ezra found the cool fresh air just right for sleeping, but Eli felt the place lacked in amenities (ie. stuff to get into).
Our adventures were capped off by a camping trip. The chilly weather kept Ezra (and by association myself) indoors, but Chris valiantly attempted to get Eli to lay down and sleep in the tent. The excitement was just too much for him, though, and I think the photo below was the only time he came near the bed. They eventually came inside and Eli went to sleep in the crib, all before 10:00pm. Oh, well, it wouldn't be an adventure without some ups and downs.
